CANARAIL ACQUIRES TAYLOR RAYNAULD AMAR & ASSOCIATES INC. (May 2008)
CANARAIL is proud to announce its acquisition of Taylor Raynauld Amar & Associates Inc. (TRA&A), a Montreal-based company providing engineering, management and consulting services in the areas of rail vehicle design, acquisition and operation. Its expertise extends to locomotives, passenger and freight cars and transit vehicles. Its core competencies also include specification development, system and structural design and project management.
CANARAIL AWARDED BAFFINLAND RAILWAY DESIGN CONTRACT (May 2008)
CANARAIL Consultants Inc. has been awarded a contract by Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation to provide detailed design services for the railway component of the Mary River Iron Ore project. The Mary River iron ore deposit, located 520 km north of the Artic circle, is approximately 143km from the sea. Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation will develop the mine and construct 143 km of railway and a commercial dock at Steensby to ship the ore to market.
The railway will operate in a harsh environment. The CANARAIL team is applying proven arctic design technologies to deal with permafrost, extreme temperatures and the remoteness of the site.
The design phase has now commenced and will continue until mid 2010. The mine is planned to be operational in late 2013, with the first commercial shipments of ore by 2014.
