Study on Catenary Electrical Power Grid

The purpose of this study was to demonstrate that the available power on the Montreal - Deux-Montagnes commuter line was sufficient to take on the additional load on the catenary electrical grid due to the increase of commuter trains coming from Eastern Montreal and Blainville and to evaluate the electromagnetic disturbances. CANARAIL’s role was to: determine the additional load applied to the grid with respect to existing facilities and the new proposed services; determine the extent of disturbances and their range of influence on all facilities located along the electrified lines; determine, if required, the modifications needed to ensure safe and efficient operation and provide a cost estimate.
