New Optical Fiber and VHF Network

The scope of the project is the provision, installation and implementation of a fiber optic system for the CBG. CANARAIL was mandated to carry out technical, economic and strategic evaluations of the existing telecommunications systems based on microwave backbone and VHF network. As a result of the evaluation, CANARAIL recommended the installation of new systems which will be able to handle traffic growth forecasted by the CBG. CANARAIL wrote technical specifications and tender documents to install a new optical backbone, a VHF radio network including tower bases and radio sets. The new systems will be installed all along the track over a distance of around 140 km. Equipment will be installed in 6 train stations. CANARAIL will be involved in the supervision of the installation taking place in early 2008.
